Teleglobe expansion a `milestone project'

Teleglobe Inc. is poised to embark on a $5 bilion expansion of its global telecommunications network. The expansion is projected to be completed in five years. Teleglobe's expansion will connect 160 major cities in the world using the latest in high-speed optical, fiber and packet technology. According to company chairman and CEO Charles Sirois, the expansion is a milestone project for Teleglobe as it would compete, if not surpass, some of the industry's giants.

TransAlta snares U.S. power plant

TransAlta Corp., a power company based in Calgary, Canada, intends to acquire the Centralia coal-fired generating plant near Seattle, WA, for $554 million. The Centralia project will serve as a springboard for TransAlta's expansion in the United States, according to company president and chief executive officer Stephen Snyder. The Centralia power plant has a total capacity of 1,340 megawatts.

TransAlta kicks off 'green' power project

TransAlta Corp. unveiled the first of its projects under a $100-million "green" fund. TransAlta has started generating alternating forms of energy production because of immense pressure from Koyto agreement, which restrict the burning of fossil fuel. It will invest $5-million in Vision Quest Windelectric Inc., a company that generates power from wind turbines.
